Some people pray rote prayers, taking Jesus literally when He taught us how to pray. [Think 'Our Father, who art in heaven . . . '.]
Some use thee's and thou's as if it were actually 17th century England.
Some go the other extreme, calling God 'daddy' and being all-familiar.
Others seem to think it necessary to use certain 'catch-phrases', hoping, I assume to 'catch' God's attention with the right words.
Some kneel, some stand, some bow, some fold hands, some speak in unknown languages, some pray with eyes open, other with eyes closed.
Some of the best prayers are unutterable; a mere inward groaning of our souls.
The great thing is, all of the above are beautiful ways to pray, if that is how you're comfortable talking to God.
Isn't it wonderful that it doesn't matter what words we use? It doesn't matter if we sit, stand, kneel or lay prone. The only thing that matters is our heart; our desire to communicate with the Father makes the 'technicalities' unimportant.
My favorite pray-er ever is my friend Juli R. The first time I ever heard her pray, I opened my eyes, fully expecting to see Jesus sitting right next to her. Her voice was so natural, her words were so free of 'holy talk'; it was evident she was talking to a very close and dear Friend who was, indeed, present. It was pretty cool to hear.
So, no matter how you pray, just be sure to take some time out today to actually do it.
The Father loves having a good conversation with His child.
